May left the WMA late last year having headed up the trade association for four years, and handed over the reins to his successor Liz Field. He originally joined the Board of what was then APCIMS in 1998.

May already has history with what became Investec Wealth & Investment having held a number of senior positions at the firm when it was branded Sheppards and subsequently Carr Sheppards Crosthwaite between 1987 and 2002.

In his new role, May will also be a member of the firm’s remuneration and audit committees.

During his career, he has also held roles as chairman of Euroclear UK and Ireland (formerly CrestCo), chief executive of CrestCo and chief operating officer of Gerrard.

May said: “Investec Wealth & Investment has built a leading position in the industry during a period of significant change. I have no doubt that the firm will capitalise on the opportunities ahead and I am looking forward to playing a part in its continued success story.”
