The company says the office will support Investec Asset Management’s expansion across Europe in both the institutional and adviser channel.
Marco Orsi has also been hired as Italian sales director for the group.
He joins Sarah Pastore, Italian sales manager, in focusing on the Italian market.
Orsi previously worked at Allianz Global Investors, where he was head of retail distribution for Italy. Prior to this, he worked as head of retail business development for Italy, Greece, Turkey, Malta and Cyprus at BNP Paribas Asset Management.
Stef Bogaars, managing director, European client group, said: “As a global investor, we believe that we will be able to bring our expertise in active management across a range of investment capabilities, including emerging markets, to a range of Italian partners.”
In February, Investec joined the Federation of European Independent Financial Advisers, bringing the number of companies on the programme to more than 50.
Investec also launched three funds, two of which were brand new, into the international retail market in December.
The two new strategies were the Investec GSF Emerging Market Debt Total Return Fund and the Asia Local Currency Bond Fund. It also launched an international version of its existing UK-domiciled Global Diversified Growth Fund.
The funds form part of the company’s Luxembourg domiciled Global Strategy Fund range.
