Independent Wealth Planners UK (IWP) has bought Edinburgh-based wealth manager Sutherland Independent for an undisclosed sum.

The Scottish firm was established in 1994 and acquired by co-owners Jason and Ruth Betteridge in 2007, and it will form IWP’s east of Scotland regional hub.

Jason Betteridge will remain as director of the firm.

Sutherland Independent has around £270m ($374m, €308m) of assets under management.

David Inglesfield, chief executive of IWP, said: “We look forward to supporting this business to grow and build on the excellent client service they already provide. We hope to continue our rapid growth in the area, building our position and presence in Scotland.”

IWP most recently made several changes to its Welsh regional hub including changing its name to Maven Wealth Management and appointing Wes Nixon as chief executive of the operation.
