Ian Aylward has been appointed AJ Bell’s new head of investment partnerships to support the firm’s expanding model portfolio service (MPS).
It said demand from advisers for tailored portfolios had undergone “rapid growth,” with assets under management climbing 45% in this year alone to £6.8bn.
AJ Bell noted that Aylward’s experience managing multi-asset and single asset solutions for Barclays Private Bank and Wealth Management – where he moves from after almost eight years – makes him a prime candidate to lead this growing branch of the business.

Aylward (pictured) said he was “delighted to be joining at a time of such exciting growth,” with investments managing director Ryan Hughes adding: “Ian has forged a fantastic career in multi-asset fund solutions building an excellent reputation and we are incredibly excited that he’s joined the team.
“With over 25 years’ experience he will help us to build on the momentum that saw our assets under management hit £6.8bn in September.”
Prior to his time at Barclays, Aylward spent eight months as head of manager research at Punter Southall Aspire, and another five years as Aviva Investors’ head of multi-manager.
