Quilter Cheviot has hired John Goddard (pictured) — who has spent 29 years at HSBC — as CEO, after Andrew McGlone announced he is stepping down three decades on from joining the group.

McGlone has spent his career with Quilter Cheviot after joining Quilter Goodison in 1994 before it merged with Cheviot Asset Management in 2013. He was appointed CEO in January 2019, and has announced he will be leaving the firm to pursue other opportunities.

McGlone commented: “Quilter Cheviot has been an integral part of my life for the past 31 years and I feel extremely privileged to have led the business for the past seven of those.

“Having positioned Quilter Cheviot as a leading integrated wealth management firm within the high-net-worth market, now is an appropriate moment to hand over to my successor to drive the next stage of our growth agenda.”

Goddard has been selected as the firm’s new CEO, starting in September, after an “extensive market search”, the firm said in a statement. He spent 29 years at HSBC, most recently as chief operating officer of the global private banking and wealth division.

Before that he has held multiple roles at the firm in locations such as London, Dubai and Hong Kong. In its statement, Quilter Cheviot said Goddard has a “strong track record in driving strategic growth initiatives across multiple businesses and jurisdictions”.

Steven Levin, Quilter CEO commented: “I would like to thank Andrew for his significant contribution to Quilter over his long and successful career with Quilter Cheviot. Under Andrew’s leadership QC has evolved over recent years, adapting to changes in the DFM sector and the business is now in a good position to build on these foundations and deliver further growth in the years ahead.”

Goddard and McGlone will work together to manage a smooth transition of responsibilities, the firm added.
