HSBC Holdings has promoted two of its senior bankers in the British lender’s Middle East North Africa (MENA) region, following its former chief executive Simon Cooper’s departure to head up HSBC’s Global Commercial Banking division earlier this month.

The bank has confirmed that Jonathan Robinson, currently head of project finance for MENA and a managing director at the bank, will take on the role as banking head for the region, replacing Paul Skelton, who will become HSBC’s regional head of commercial banking.

"Having spent more than 11 years in the region, Jonathan has strong knowledge and understanding of the key industry sectors that are growing at a fast pace across the Middle East," HSBC stated in an internal staff memo.

Skelton’s predecessor, Tim Reid, meanwhile, has been appointed to the London-based position of co-head of HSBC’s European Commercial Banking division.

Both Robinson and Skelton’s appointments will be effective from January next year, the bank added.
