Jointly organized with the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the awards have two categories: Practitioner Category and University Student Category. The former is open to all practitioners from three major industry sectors, including banking, independent financial advisory (IFA) and insurance. The latter is a team-based category that is open to Hong Kong’s university students.

The first round of the practitioners’ application process is to submit an actual client’s financial proposal in the form of a completed client data questionnaire, using powerpoint. This plan should not be written less than 14 point font size and carry no more than 40 slides.

The second round requires a detailed written plan of the first round real client case, with an oral presentation to the judges in a role play format.

In the final round the three finalists are provided with a case study of a client and required to present a proposal in powerpoint. The Hong Kong’s Best Financial Planner of the year 2012 is then selected by the panel of judges.

“The Institute is set up to serve the public, raise the industry standard and boost the public’s confidence towards the industry,” said Mr. Paul Pong, Chairman of IFPHK.

Application for the Awards will close on 27 April and the results will be unveiled at the awards presentation ceremony on 9 October, 2012.
