GWM IM, led by managing director Chris Payne and part of the Guardian Wealth Management Group, said Optimus would bring a consolidated offering of asset management, private equity, and quantitative research to its operation.

Optimus led by Martin Newson works with institutions, charities and private clients providing bespoke portfolio services as well as private placements.

Payne said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Optimus Capital, in what represents another exciting chapter in GWM’s growth plan.

The firm’s consolidated offering of asset management, private equity, and quantitative research capability makes it the perfect partner for GWM and will be invaluable in strengthening our investment proposition.

Expanding services

“The partnership with Optimus Capital perfectly complements our existing proposition, bringing an institutional style, private equity deal capabilities for clients, and a range of diversified portfolios to our current offering. We would like to extend a warm welcome to Martin and his team.”

Martin Newson, chief executive officer and chief investment officer at Optimus Capital, said: “This partnership is a reflection of how far Optimus has come in the last few years. GWM Investment Management has built a wealth and investment offering that we are hugely excited to be part of. We look forward to developing the business and continuing to provide our clients with high quality dedicated wealth and investment management services.”
Newson is a former head of European Equities of Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs equity analyst.

GWM Investment Management was formed in 2016 by Guardian Wealth, which is led by David Howell and co-founder and chief executive John Hasberry, as a privately owned wealth management boutique. It focuses on the ultra-high net worth and family office space, and offers a range of services from investment consultancy and wealth planning to tier one visa investment management, and also acts for professional trustees.

While the terms of the deal have not been revealed Optimus has moved into GWM IM’s Mayfair, Brook Street offices and both firms have become LLP designate members of the other.

GWM IM joins Optimus’ Newson and co-founder Campbell Gordon as limited liability partners in Optimus.
