The Indian Consulate in Dubai has issued a warning that unidentified persons are impersonating its officials by calling residents in the region and telling them they have infringed immigration laws.
In a statement made on Tuesday, the consulate general of India in Dubai revealed that unsuspecting members of the public in Dubai and Northern Emirates are being asked to deposit money in different accounts, falsely saying they are calling from the Indian Consulate.
“The general public in hereby advised that the Indian Consulate does not make such calls”, it stated.
In touch with local authorities
The consulate also said it is in touch with local authorities regarding these fraudster calls and asked those who are impacted to get in touch via email.
“If anyone receives such calls he/she may please inform the consulate by dropping an email at hoc.dubai@mea.gov.in and cgoffice.dubai@mea.gov.in. It is reiterated that none of the Indian consulate officials ever made such calls.”
