Financial planning group acquires Welsh advice firm

Deal increases its funds under management to over £900m

Financial planning company Astute Private Wealth has bought Wrexham-based Williams Financial Planning for an undisclosed sum.

This acquisition follows the company’s 2020 purchase of Cheshire-based Optimas Financial Planning, where Astute gained £65m in funds under management from the deal.

The deal increases Astute’s funds under management to over £900m ($1.1bn, €1bn).

Astute, which has offices in Chester, Liverpool and Knutsford, sees the purchase of Williams as an opportunity to further strengthen its position in the region.

Gary Lee, chief executive at Astute, said: “Williams Financial Planning is a company we know very well, and it has an outstanding reputation in the local community. Like Williams, Astute is committed to providing a great service and a focus on building long-term client relationships.

“Both businesses share the same professional values, the same ethics and the same desire for a positive culture.”

Richard Williams, director of Williams Financial Planning, said that it had been a big decision to sell, particularly as 2023 would have been the 50th anniversary of the formation of the business, but viewed it as a positive move.

“Joining Astute will mean that we, our team and clients will benefit from a dynamic, forward-thinking organisation which has our best interests at heart,” Williams added.
