The EC published its proposals on 20 October for perusal by the European finance industry, and stakeholders will now have until 13 January next year to provide the Parliament with their views.

One of the perhaps more contentious proposals, issued in a later draft by the EC, is for advisers authorised under the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, and who call themselves independent, to be banned from accepting commission from providers.

In contrast, tied or multi-tied advisers will be able to accept commission from their chosen provider or providers.

The questionnaire also asks for industry feedback on proposals relating to corporate governance, Investor protection and transparency.
