Based in London, John Saunders will oversee the Western Europe and Americas desks.

Saunders will head a team of 50 client advisers and support staff and report to managing director Michael Mount, who leads the international client group based in the UK.

He has more than 20 years’ industry experience, most recently spending five years at Barclays Wealth, where he lead a team of high net worth bankers focused on resident non-domiciled clients.

Chief executive at Coutts, Michael Morly, said: “[Saunders’] appointment is confirmation of our commitment to the development of our services for international clients based in the UK.”

Saunders added: “[Resident non-domiciled] is an area in which Coutts has traditionally been strong, which remains of strategic importance, and one we believe can truly be differentiated and market leading.”

Last month, Coutts appointed a new head of fiduciary investments in a continuation of its investment into its Jersey trust business.

David Thompson joined on 6 January and will work to build open architecture trustee investment selection and monitoring frameworks.
