In this newly created role, Economos will be responsible for the institutional, private wealth, and retail distribution of Capital’s business in Asia. Based in Hong Kong, he will also be responsible for developing strategic solutions for clients, managing distribution, and supporting the development of Capital’s Asian businesses.
According to the company, the role has been created in response to growing demand from Capital Group’s clients in Asia.
Economos joined Capital Group on 2 May from JP Morgan Asset Management where he was managing director of asset management and head of sovereign and institutional strategy in Asia. He has more than 25 years of investment industry experience, including nearly 20 years as a portfolio manager of global and emerging market equities.
Thomas Quantrille, head of Capital Group Asia expects Economos to play a “very important role” as the company seeks to grow its offering in the region where it has been operating for more than 30 years with six offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo.
As of 31 December, Capital Group had assets worth $1.3trn across equity, fixed income and private equity.
