Hall, who becomes CLI's head of compliance and risk, has held a number of senior roles at FPI including its Isle of Man-based general manager, director and head of international governance.

Sean Christian, managing director of Canada Life International (CLI) said the position is a newly created one: “We have taken the opportunity to further strengthen our compliance and risk function in recognition of the significant amount of regulatory change that is expected within our industry over the next few years.

"I am delighted that Jonathan has joined the senior management team as he brings a wealth of compliance, risk, legal and company secretarial skills to our business.”

Hall said “I was attracted to CLI because of its clear long-term strategy, its high ethical standards and its prudent approach to risk.”

He added that he is looking forward to helping the company go through the next round of regulatory developments.

Castletown-based CLI is in the process of constructing a new purpose built headquarters for all its operations on the island, at the Isle of Man business park just outside of Douglas where RL360° and Boal & Co, amongst others, are located.

FPI underwent a strategic review in 2012 that saw a head count reduction in the international division by 100 people, from the total 1,350 employees including the Lombard International Assurance business (currently for sale). Friends Life International CEO John Van Der Weilen said subsequently that there was more head count reduction in Salisbury than in the Isle of Man.

Earlier this year, one of FPI’s other general managers David Knights, who headed Hong Kong, joined Investors Trust Assurance as head of Asia distribution.
