Expatriate Law has received approval to launch a foreign law practice in Singapore.

It will be regulated by the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority in England.

The office will provide English divorce and family law advice to British expats and families with links to England, who are living in Singapore and across south-east Asia.

It will be led by Sonny Patel, who is a partner at the firm.

He is a solicitor with 13 years of post-qualification experience in English family law.

Effective conduct

“I understand that, for expats, it can be difficult to know where to turn for accurate and trusted advice in the event of marriage breakdown,” said Patel.

“The decisions that are made at the outset of a divorce have significant and long-lasting implications for all members of the family.

“The effective conduct of a cross-border divorce requires technical knowledge combined with practical experience of a number of niche areas of law.

“By establishing a presence in Singapore and working closely with local lawyers across the region, our firm will be ideally placed to meet the needs of British expats at what can be a highly charged and stressful period of their lives.”

The firm is headquartered in London and has another team in Dubai.
