Cheng, who took up the role on 1 November, is responsible for overseeing the sales organisation, both the distribution and institutional teams in the Asia-Pacific region and for driving the business strategy across its three core segments namely, official institutions, insurance and endowments, and private wealth.
“With dedicated teams focusing on sovereign wealth, private wealth and insurance and endowments, we can better serve these growing wealth segments,” Chang said.
Cheng, who joined BNPP IP in 2001, became head of institutional business development for Asia in 2010. He reports to Vincent Camerlynck, chief executive Asia Pacific. Both are based in Hong Kong.
Cheng started his career at the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
In addition, the company has created three additional roles to drive each core business segment.
Lesley Lo has been appointed head of insurance and endowments Asia Pacific, where she will mobilise the various “solutions-oriented” capabilities in the firm to meet the specific liability-driven and asset liability management needs of this client segment. She remains head of institutional business for Greater China and other Asia (including Thailand and the Philippines).
Lo joined BNPP IP in 2007 and was previously director institutional business development for Asia. She is also based in Hong Kong.
Christian Bucaro takes up the new role of head of private wealth, Asia Pacific. He is responsible for strengthening relationships with global distributors, private banks, family and multi-family offices, and to develop innovative solutions to meet the “increasingly customised needs” of Asia Pacific private wealth owners. He was previously head of distribution South East Asia. He joined the firm in 2005 and is based in Singapore.
As previously reported, Puay-Lit Tan has been appointed head of official institutions Asia Pacific to oversee the sovereign wealth business. In addition, Tan is also deputy chief executive officer for Singapore and head of institutional business for South and South East Asia.
BNP Paribas Investment Partners is the asset management business of the BNP Paribas Group with total assets under management worth €473bn ($640bn, £395bn) as of 30 September.
