The CAR Long Short Fund, which is part of the Ucits fund range of Barclays Capital Fund Solutions, is now available via a number of offshore life bond provider platforms.

It is a tactical asset allocation strategy which aims to achieve absolute returns with low to medium risk through investing in a wide range of asset classes, market geographies and durations. These include fixed income, money markets, equities, infrastructure, FX and volatility across Europe, the US and Japan. It applies a quantitative investment process combining fundamental analysis and technical criteria to allocate across the assets.

On a monthly basis, the rebalancing aims to allocate to the markets expected to perform positively and reduce risk of continued investment in the underperforming markets.

“CAR Long Short is an excellent liquid alternative to an investment in global macro hedge funds,” said David Macdonald, head of retail insurance solutions and Barclays Capital. "Offshore life bond investors can access this fund to diversify their portfolio across multiple asset classes, especially in times of equity market stress.”

The fund is available in euro, (share class D) and US dollar (share class F).
