The London-based fund house also said it is focusing on growing its client base and product offering across the Asia Pacific region. Weston will manage Asia Pacific equities as part of AXA IM’s Framlington equities team.
He will report to Mark Tinker, head of framlington equities asia, which is the specialist equity fund house owned by the Axa Group.
Weston joins AXA IM from Semeru CLSA Capital Partners in Singapore where he was a managing director and portfolio manager of the Semeru Asian Equity High Yield Fund.
Prior to that, he worked at Old Mutual Asset Managers, Perpetual Investment Management and Hill Samuel Asset Management.
Tremendous
“Simon will be an excellent addition to the equity team and our manufacturing capabilities in Hong Kong, but also to AXA IM’s wider global research structure,” Tinker said.
“With tremendous experience and a strong performance track record, we are excited to have Simon join us and are certain that he will bolster AXA IM’s positive momentum in the Asia Pacific.”
In August, Axa IM estimated it would lose €34bn ($37bn, £25bn) following the acquisiton of Friends Life by Aviva.
