PortfolioMetrix has hired Alex Funk to take over as head of investments in the UK as Nic Spicer steps back from the position.
Funk (pictured) is currently CIO of Schroders Investment Solutions, a role he took in May 2021. Previously, he was CIO of Benchmark Capital and worked as an investment specialist at Premier Asset Management.
At the end of April, Schroders CEO Peter Harrison announced he would retire next year, and head of UK Wealth Doug Abbott announced his departure in March.
Funk will begin his new role with PortfolioMetrix on 1 August.

PortfolioMetrix UK managing director Ben Peele said: “We’re very excited for Alex to join in the summer. His breadth of experience across MPS, multi-asset and insourced solutions will bring a different perspective and ensure that PortfolioMetrix’s proposition keeps evolving. His proven track record on driving growth will help take our business to even greater heights.”
Stepping back from the position, Spicer, who helped launched the company in 2012, will be pursuing a masters degree in sustainable energy futures at Imperial College. PortfolioMetrix said Spicer launched a variety of ESG portfolios during his time at the company, and will remain a shareholder.
PortfolioMetrix Global CEO Brandon Zietsman said: “Nic has done a fantastic job building an outstanding investment team and we’re immensely grateful for the part he has played in developing the business to this point.”
