Santander appoints intl private bank head

Alvaro Morales has been appointed as chief executive of Santander Private Banking International.

Morales was previously director of the firm’s Private Banking UK division and will be replaced in this position by Alan Matthewson who is also replacing Rick Okey as managing director of Abbey for Intermediaries.

UK executive director, Antonio Lorenzo, to whom Morales previously reported, thanked him for his contributions to the private banking arm.

In taking over Morales’ previous role, Matthewson will report jointly to the firm’s global head of asset management and private banking, Javier Marín, as well as Lorenzo, for responsibilities in relation to private banking. In respect of his Abbey for Intermediaries responsibilities, Matthewson will report solely to Lorenzo.
