UK-based asset management company Invesco is reportedly one of the front runners to buy the Asian asset management division of ING.

According to Bloomberg, the Dutch financial services company has sent information to a number of potential bidders which it said “may include” Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, include Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Bank of New York Mellon Corp, Schroders Plc as well as Invesco.

ING is under order from the European Union to sell its Asian asset management arm before the end of 2013 in order to repay the state aid it received in 2008.

ING is selling its life insurance and investment management divisions in two separate deals, which could potentially raise £6.5bn.
