Under the merger agreement, Ian Paget-Brown QC, founder  of Paget-Brown, is assuming the role of counsel in the new company.

Paget-Brown said that the growth of his practice over the past 40 years had been a source of personal pride, but that the time had come for his clients “to benefit from the specialised legal expertise available at Travers Thorp Alberga”.

Travers Thorp Alberga is known to many outside the legal profession for being the firm through which Anthony Travers OBE, a former senior partner and 30-year veteran of Maples & Calder, made his return to law at the end of 2012, after a six-year hiatus from the profession. During this time he spent two years as chairman of Cayman Finance, leaving in 2011. He remains chairman of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange.

Travers said he had known Paget-Brown for more than 30 years and that the two shared “tremendous” respect for one another.

Travers Thorp Alberga has offices in Hong Kong as well as the Cayman Islands, and is also able to advise on laws in the British Virgin Islands, according to its website.
