Scott managed the F&C UK Growth & Income fund until 2009 (which was later merged into the UK Equity Income fund, run by Phil Doel), having previously been responsible for the group's Stewardship Income and Stewardship Growth funds from 1998 and 2000, respectively.

After returning from sick leave in 2009 he left day-to-day fund management and took on a role in strategic equities.

Scott began his career in 1981 at stockbroking firm Schaverien & Co after graduating from the University of Exeter with a BA in Economics,

He moved to Friends Provident in 1984 and was promoted to their Stewardship team in 1987.

A spokesperson at F&C confirmed Scott’s retirement, adding: "We thank Ted for his 30 years of service at the company and wish him well for the future."

Scott's announcement comes just days after the announcement of another high-profile fund manager preparing to retire, as Jeremy Tigue is stepping down.
