US in the news: Merit Financial Advisors makes double deal

Merit Financial Advisors

The Georgia-based financial advice firm has acquired Tedstrom Wealth Advisors and IM Wealth Care for an undisclosed sum.

The firms, which are located in the Denver area, will establish Merit’s presence in the region.

Tedstrom Wealth Advisors was founded by Peter Tedstrom, who will assume the role of regional director at Merit.

IMWC will be led by Kate Redden, who will assume the role of managing partner at Merit.

Homrich Berg

The wealth manager has agreed to buy registered investment adviser (RIA) firm Oakbridge Partners for an undisclosed sum.

When the deal closes, the combined assets under management are expected to be over $13bn (£10bn, €12bn).

Warren Wick, William Cohen, Jennifer Storey, Eric Toole, and Brandon Downs will join the firm as principals along with the rest of the team from Oakbridge Partners.

WA Asset Management (WAAM)

The RIA firm has acquired Clark Financial Advisors (CFA) for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Birmingham, CFA was founded by M Brooks Clark and provides investment management and financial planning services to its high-net-worth clients.

The entire CFA team will join WAAM.

Creative Planning

The advice firm has bought Resource Management for an undisclosed sum.

Resource Management, which has $1.9bn in assets under management, is an advisory firm which specialises in financial planning.

In other news, Creative Planning has also bought Hatton Consulting, a Phoenix based wealth management firm, for an undisclosed sum.

The Mather Group

The wealth manager has received a strategic investment from private equity firm The Vistria Group.

As part of the transaction, The Vistria Group will commit capital to support TMG’s continued growth, both organically and through additional acquisitions.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

People moves

First Republic Bank

The private bank and wealth management company has named Kathleen Kalp as a senior vice president and wealth manager in Santa Barbara.

Before joining First Republic, she was a senior vice president at Montecito Bank & Trust.

Sanctuary Wealth

The advice group has hired Fuentes Hondermann Wealth Management.

Based in Sanctuary’s Miami office, the three-person team with $250m in client assets under management was previously affiliated with Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.

The team consists of managing director and senior wealth adviser Luis Fuentes, executive director and senior wealth adviser Rosario Hondermann, and managing director and senior wealth adviser Chris Fuentes.

Carson Group

The financial services firm has hired Burt White as managing partner and chief strategy officer.

White joins Carson Group after serving as managing director and chief investment officer at LPL Financial.

Rockefeller Capital Management

The financial advisory firm has hired Stamford-based Landmark Group.

Led by managing directors and private wealth advisers Tammi Lauder and William Christian, the team also includes vice president and private wealth adviser Steven Cangialosi, vice president and private wealth adviser Sean Reidy; and senior vice president, director of operations and onboarding initiatives Kelly Flaherty.

Waldron Private Wealth

The wealth management firm has hired JR Raebiger as managing director and senior wealth adviser.

Prior to joining Waldron, Raebiger served as managing director for Pitcarin Trust Company.
