Advice network names CFO, while investment firm makes chief executive change

Openwork

The financial advice and investment network has named Richard Houghton as chief financial officer.

Houghton, who also joins the Openwork board, initially joined the network as interim chief financial officer in February this year.

Previously, for nearly a decade, Houghton worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, serving latterly as chief operating officer for RBS Insurance.

BNY Mellon Investment Management

Newton chief executive Hanneke Smits has been promoted to head up BNY Mellon Investment Management as existing boss Mitchell Harris prepares to retire.

Smits, who took over as Newton chief from Helena Morrissey in August 2016, will succeed Harris on 1 October.

Newton, a subsidiary within BNY Mellon IM’s multi-boutique structure, is currently searching for a successor to replace her.

Aberdeen Standard Investments

John Bennett has joined the firm as UK business development director.

He spent the last six years at BMO Global Asset Management, most recently as head of financial institutions group.

Prior to that, he spent four years with RWC Partners as head of retail distribution.

Oddo BHF Asset Management

The firm has strengthened its Middle East presence with the hire of Reza Yazdi as head of sales.

Based in the UAE, Yazdi will actively promote sales activities in the Middle East.

Yazdi has joined the firm from Morningstar, where since 2012 he has launched and managed the Dubai office.

Prior to this, he worked for Morningstar in Paris and Geneva.

Julius Baer

The Swiss private bank has named Giuseppe De Filippo as head of its newly created direct private investments group.

De Filippo joins from UBS, where he held various roles and latterly, he led the direct investments group and the corporate finance group, globally.

The operation will offer direct private investments outside the traditional stock market business for its very wealthy and sophisticated private banking clients.

James Hay

The investment platform has named Wayne Barlow as director of operations, according to his Linkedin profile.

He was previously Sipp operations director at Rowanmoor.

Prior to this, Barlow was head of customer operations at Standard Life Aberdeen.

DBS Bank

The Hong Kong operation of the group has appointed Peter Tung as head of private banking for greater China.

He replaced Januar Tjandra, who has retired.

Tung will be responsible for managing and developing DBS’ private banking business in Hong Kong, Macau, mainland China and Taiwan.

Before DBS, he was a Hong Kong-based partner at Beijing-headquartered Venturous Capital, a family office specialising in smart city technology investments.

Fidelity International

The investment firm has named Salman Ahmed as global head of macro and strategic asset allocation.

Salman joins in August from Lombard Odier Investment Managers, where he held the position of chief investment strategist.

Premier Miton

The asset manager has hired Lloyd Harris as head of fixed income and lead manager of the Premier Corporate Bond Monthly Income Fund.

He joins in August 2020 from Merian Global Investors, where he has worked since January 2012.

Harris will be joined by other members of the Merian fixed income investment team, including co-manager, Simon Prior.

Also, Alan Rowsell has been appointed as manager of a planned new global smaller companies fund.

He joins in October 2020 from Aberdeen Standard Investments, where he has been manager of the ASI Global Smaller Companies Fund since 2012.
