US in the news: Hiring spree at RBC WM and Raymond James

A round-up of people moves and M&A deals across North America

RBC Wealth Management

The wealth firm has bolstered its ranks with the hire of several teams across the US.

The CFS Group comes to RBC Wealth Management’s Mclean, Virginia branch from UBS managing approximately $439m (£346m, €388) in client assets. The team is composed of:

  • Anthony Connor, managing director and financial adviser, who has 26 years of industry experience;
  • Bryon Fusini, managing director and financial adviser, who has 39 years of experience;
  • Rich Stein, senior financial associate;
  • Dianne Scott, senior registered client associate;
  • Grace Benson, senior business associate.

Also joining the firm from UBS is John Galleher, senior vice president and financial Advisor, who has 38 years of experience and manages approximately $378m in assets; and Ron Fitzgerald, vice president and senior financial associate.

Elsewhere, RBC WM has added a team to its Farmington, Connecticut office.

The Cahill, Gibson Wealth Management Group joins from Merrill Lynch managing approximately $220m in client assets. The team is composed of:

  • Timothy Cahill, senior vice president and financial adviser, who has 22 years of industry experience;
  • Martha Gibson, president and financial adviser, who has 19 years of experience;
  • Tiffany Porter, senior registered client associate.

Lastly, RBC Wealth Management welcomes Mark Bilski to its midtown branch in New York, adding approximately $650m in client assets.

Bilski, managing director and financial advisor, joins from UBS.

Joining with Bilski are four support staff members:

  • Melanie Clish, senior business associate;
  • Jeff Hyman, senior investment associate;
  • Cathy Hillebrand, senior registered client associate;
  • Robin Bratone, registered client associate.

Goldman Sachs

The banking giant has named Nicole Pullen Ross as regional head of private wealth management in New York.

Ross joins the New York division from her current role as head of the mid-Atlantic region, where she has overseen offices in Philadelphia and Washington since 2011.

She succeeds Gary Giglio, 53, who’s stepping down on 1 July to focus on charitable causes.

Giglio, a 26-year veteran of the firm, has led the New York division since 2007.

Raymond James

The Canadian arm of North American investment dealer has named Scott Hudson as national director of wealth management.

Hudson has over 25 years of wealth management experience and most recently, he was responsible for the business development efforts at a bank-owned investment dealer.

Elsewhere, the firm’s US broker dealer business has named Hans Asoera as a financial adviser in Burlington, Vermont.

Asoera operates as Peregrine Wealth Management of Raymond James and joins from Edward Jones.

Joining him at Raymond James are senior client service associates Andrea MacLeod and Tracy LaPan.

Also, the firm has hired financial advisers Matt Jung, Daniel Dunham and Kim Laird in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

The trio operates as PDX Wealth Management (PDXWM) and joins from Waddell & Reed, where they managed more than $285m in client assets for a variety of clients, including business owners, families and individuals, retirees and women investors.

Joining the advisers at Raymond James are Kevin Fredrickson, head of training and planning at PDXWM and branch associate, and Megan Layton, executive associate at PDXWM.

Lastly, Tim Bellars, Claudia Bellars and Brad Harris join the firm in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The team, which operates as Bellars Harris Wealth Management, joins from Merrill Lynch, where the advisors managed more than $355m in client assets.

Joining the advisers are Tim and Claudia’s son Axel Bellars, vice president of Bellars Harris Wealth Management and wealth manager, Jeannie Marie Hughes, client service manager, and Hughes’ daughter Laura Savage, client service associate.

Bernstein Private Wealth Management

The wealth firm has appointed Joel Stevens as head of the regional office in Tampa.

Stevens, a senior managing director, will be responsible for overseeing Bernstein’s Tampa-based private client operations and growth of the business in the region, which includes Tampa-St Petersburg-Sarasota, Orlando, Jacksonville, and Naples.

He has been at Bernstein since 1994.

Chilton Trust

The independent wealth management firm has announced Nick Frelinghuysen will join its team of senior leaders as managing director.

He joins the firm with more than 27 years of experience in equity research and portfolio management.

Most recently, he was a partner at the boutique investment firm, Eagle Ridge Investment Management, where he served as a portfolio manager and co-head of research.

The Donerail Group

The investment adviser has named Craig Pollak as head of strategy and business development.

He joins Donerail from Actis where he served as a director, focused on private investments across growth and emerging markets.

M&A

Apollon Wealth Management

The financial planning firm has taken a minority interest in Chicago-based Podesta Capital Advisors.

It has also formed a partnership allowing Podesta Capital Advisors to utilise Apollon’s full-service financial planning and wealth management platform.

In addition, the partnership will enable Apollon to offer its clients access to Podesta’s proprietary stock analysis and investment modeling.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Captrust Financial Advisors

Private equity firm GTCR has made a 25% minority growth investment in CAPTRUST.

The firm’s co-founder, chairman, and chief executive Fielding Miller, will continue to lead the firm and remain as the largest shareholder.

GTCR is investing in Captrust with a minority interest and a minimum 7-year investment horizon, and it will hold two of the nine seats on the board of directors.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
