PEOPLE MOVES: Deutsche Bank, Prudential, EFG International

German banking group names APAC chief, while life insurer appoints Thailand CEO

Deutsche Bank

The German banking giant has appointed Alexander von zur Mühlen as chief executive of its Asia Pacific operation.

Von zur Mühlen joined Deutsche Bank in 1998 and was most recently global head of group strategy.

He replaces Werner Steinmüller, who is retiring from the board.

Steinmüller will continue to serve the bank in an advisory role until year end.

Prudential Thailand

The Thai life insurance operation of Prudential Corporation Asia (PCA) has named Robin Spencer as chief executive.

Spencer joined PCA from NN Group in 2018 as chief operating officer.

He takes over from Aman Chowla who took up the role in November 2017.

EFG International

Martin Freiermuth has been appointed chief operating officer and a member of the executive committee at the financial services group.

He will join EFG from Banque Internationale à Luxembourg, where he worked since 2014 and served as group head products and markets.

Freiermuth will succeed Christian Flemming, who will step down to become the chief operating officer of BTG Pactual.

Independent Resourcing Consultancy (IRC)

The recruitment firm has hired Graham Hughes as IFA proposition director, according to his Linkedin profile.

Hughes joins from UAE-based Abacus Financial Consultants, where he spent two years as a financial consultant.

He also spent time at HSBC International, Noor Bank and United Arab Bank.

Vontobel Asset Management

The Swiss firm has hired Freddie Solway as a relationship manager in its UK office focused on the intermediary distribution channel.

Solway will be responsible for distribution to discretionary wealth managers, private banks, banks, asset managers and IFAs.

He joins from BNY Mellon Investment Management, where he was sales director in the UK wholesale team.

Prior to that, he was at Canaccord Genuity and JP Morgan Asset Management.

Investec Wealth & Investment

The firm has named John Cowmeadow as head of intermediary services.

He has been deputy head of intermediary services since April 2019, when he joined the company from Brewin Dolphin.

Cowmeadow takes over the role from Mark Stevens, who is retiring after a 40-year career in the private banking, wealth management and investment industry.

Elsewhere, the firm has also hired three people for its discretionary fund management (DFM) operation.

David Hyner joins as a business development director based in its Guildford office, while Ian Wolfenden and Lee Crowe will be business development directors in its Leeds and Glasgow offices, respectively.

They will work closely with IFAs and all join from Brooks Macdonald.

Quilter Investors

The investment arm of Quilter has named environmental, social and governance (ESG) specialist Eimear Toomey as head of responsible investment.

Toomey joins from the global ESG research and data provider Sustainalytics, where she worked as director of client relations.

Oakbridge

The independent investment manager has named David Smith as compliance officer.

He has worked in the finance industry for more than 25 years, most recently as a supervisor at the Jersey Financial Services Commission.

Prior to that, he was an investment manager for Kleinwort Benson in Jersey.

Charles Russell Speechlys

The law firm has promoted Oliver Auld to partner in the private wealth disputes team.

He joined the firm as a trainee, qualifying in 2009.

Auld acts for clients involved in complex and multi-jurisdictional disputes concerning inherited wealth and assets held in English and offshore family trusts.

Womble Bond Dickinson

The law firm has strengthened its London practice with the appointment of Will Ford, who joins as a partner in the private wealth team.

He advises high net worth individuals, trustees and family businesses on UK and cross-border estate and life-time tax planning, international succession, asset protection/wealth preservation and related use of asset-holding structures.

Before joining WBD, Ford was a client adviser and head of UK estate planning at single family office Anthos.
