US in the news: AllianceBernstein hires former NFL star

AllianceBernstein

The firm has appointed Winston Justice as a financial adviser.

Justice is a former NFL offensive tackle and played for the Philadelphia Eagles for six years.

Given his background, he will help the firm target and cater to professional athletes.

Prior to joining Bernstein, Justice worked as a portfolio manager for California-based Pacific Income Advisers.

He also worked as a financial adviser for Wells Fargo Advisors in Florida.

Franklin Templeton Canada

Manmeet Bhatia has joined the firm as head of private wealth.

Prior to joining Franklin Templeton, Bhatia held executive and senior leadership positions at wealth and asset management firms, including Aviso Wealth, Qtrade Financial Group; and Assante Wealth Management.

PKF O’Connor Davies

The accounting, tax and advisory firm has named Steve Prostano as head of its Family Advisory Services (FAS).

Prostano joins from Bank of the West, where he was senior vice president and head of family wealth advisers.

He will help drive the expansion of the firm’s newly launched business.

TruClarity Wealth Advisors

The Tampa-based registered investment adviser (RIA) has named Catherine Mustico as chief compliance officer.

Mustico will handle compliance needs and regulatory requirements for advisers.

She will also oversee internal policy and procedural initiatives for TruClarity Wealth Advisors.

Before joining TruClarity, Mustico was chief compliance officer of Elara Securities.

Prio Wealth

The Boston-based wealth management firm has appointed Alanna Spada as managing director.

Spada will provide portfolio management and holistic financial planning for Prio’s clients, reporting to chief executive John Bratschi.

With more than 19 years of experience in the investment management industry, Spada most recently served as senior wealth manager at BNY Mellon.

TCF National Bank

The subsidiary of TCF Financial Corporation has named Brendon Tripodo as managing director of wealth management.

In this role, he is responsible for the overall strategy of the wealth management line of business, which includes private banking, trust, investment management and retirement planning services.

Tripodo joins TCF Bank with nearly 30 years of experience and has held leadership roles with Key Private Bank, Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management, Fifth Third Private Bank, and SunTrust Wealth Management.

RBC Wealth Management

The firm has hired the IC Group to be based at its Reno branch.

It is composed of:

  • Paul Comcowich, senior vice president – financial adviser, who has 24 years of industry experience;
  • David Iubelt, senior vice president – financial adviser, who has 21 years of experience;
  • Clifford Iubelt, associate vice president – financial adviser, who has eight years of experience;
  • Robin Brunson, financial adviser, who has five years of experience; and
  • Kimberlie Jones, senior registered client associate.

The team manages approximately $405m in assets and joins from Merrill Lynch.

It has also brought the Guyette Financial Group to its newly formed Green Bay, Wisconsin branch.

The Guyette Financial Group is composed of:

  • Brannon Guyette, managing director – financial adviser, who has 19 years of industry experience;
  • Ann Jahnke, senior registered client associate; and
  • Clara Cockrum, registered client associate.

The team manages approximately $423m (£328m, €380m) in assets and joins from Merrill Lynch.

GCW Global Customized Wealth

The global investment management firm has named Tim Babich as partner.

California-based Babich was founder and chief executive of Fortelus Capital Management, a London-based hedge fund focused on special situations and distressed debt.

M&A

EP Wealth Advisors

The independent RIA has acquired San Francisco-based investment manager CPIC International.

It is the firm’s second acquisition in the greater San Francisco area this year.

CPIC co-founder Diane Jakubowski will become senior wealth adviser at EP Wealth, while the other co-founder Thomas Bonomo will be business operations manager.

The deal will increase EP Wealth’s assets under management by roughly $110m and add 55 new clients to its operation.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
