US in the news: New York life insurer makes CFO hire

A round-up of the latest people moves and M&A deals in North America

People Moves

New York Life

The life insurer has appointed Eric Feldstein as executive vice president and chief financial officer.

He reports to chairman and chief executive Ted Mathas.

Feldstein joins New York Life from Health Care Service Corporation, where he was chief financial officer.

He replaces Joel Steinberg, who was serving as interim chief financial officer following the retirement of John Fleurant earlier this year.

Steinberg will resume his full-time role as chief risk officer and continue to report to Mathas.

Bluespring Wealth Partners

The business focused exclusively on acquiring experienced registered investment adviser (RIA) and wealth management firms has announced three new hires.

Brett Gage has become M&A specialist and will be responsible for analysing all activity related to mergers and acquisitions, including vetting new opportunities and providing ongoing support for acquired firms.

Previously, he specialised in transaction execution for private equity clients at Goldman Sachs and oversaw a wide range of transactions across the US and Asia.

James Mackiewicz has been named vice president of strategic growth.

In his new role, Mackiewicz will work directly with current and future acquired firms to aid their transition to Bluespring Wealth Partners and establish growth goals.

Previously he was at AssetMark, where he worked with advisers on strategic and succession planning initiatives.

Lastly, the firm has hired Sarah Schilling as channel marketing manager.

Schilling’s previous role was at Kasasa, where she managed marketing plans for a portfolio of over 50 clients.

RBC Wealth Management

The firm has hired the MC Wealth Solutions Group.

It is composed of:

  • David Mozeleski, senior vice president and financial adviser, who has 23 years of industry experience;
  • Susan Chatfield, senior vice president and financial adviser, who has 24 years of experience; and
  • James Scheide, senior registered client associate.

The team manages approximately $253m (£201m, €229m) in client assets and joins RBC from Merrill Lynch.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management

The firm has named Rick Calero as head of lending and deposits.

Calero has more than 20 years of experience in strategic business planning, banking and lending.

Before joining BNY Mellon Wealth Management, he spent six years at TIAA, where he was senior managing director within institutional financial services.

First Republic Bank

Maureen Raihle and John Ver Bockel have joined First Republic Investment Management as managing director and wealth manager.

They will be based in Palm Beach, Florida.

Raihle has more than 32 years of wealth management experience.

Prior to First Republic, she was a managing director at Merrill Private Wealth Management.

Ver Bockel has more than 36 years of wealth management experience.

Prior to joining First Republic, he was a managing director at Merrill Private Wealth Management.

Dowling & Yahnke Wealth Advisors

Andrew Christopher has joined the Dowling & Yahnke team as an associate adviser.

Prior to joining Dowling & Yahnke, Christopher had a distinguished 10-year career serving in the US Navy as a naval officer and F/A-18 Super-Hornet pilot.

M&A

Captrust Financial Advisors

The firm has bought the private advisory group of investment manager Boston Advisors.

The deal adds 15 people and more than $1.5bn of assets under management to Captrust’s business.

The Boston Advisors’ private advisory group team, led by president and chief investment officer Michael Vogelzang, have become Captrust employees.

The group will assume Captrust’s brand.

With the addition of the Boston Advisors team, Captrust now has 234 advisors across 48 locations.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
