Columbia Threadneedle Investments
Nick Ring re-joins the asset manager as chief executive for Europe, Middle East and Africa (Emea). He will also be part of the executive leadership team of Ameriprise Financial, the firm’s parent company.
He will take on the top job from 23 September 2019.
Ring was previously global head of distribution at Jupiter Asset Management. Before that he was at Columbia Threadneedle where he spent seven years before moving to Jupiter in 2015.
Saunderson House
Jack Straw has been appointed as an independent consultant and member of the wealth management firm’s investment committee.
This follows an aborted attempt by its previous parent company, IFG Group, to sell the business in 2018. The group has since been sold to a private equity company.
Straw’s role will focus on scrutinising and challenging investment decisions around proposed asset allocations and fund selections.
He was a senior British politician who has served in several cabinet roles including Home Secretary, Foreign Secretary and Secretary of State for Justice.
He was a member of parliament between 1979 and 2015.
Polar Capital North America
The asset manager has named Alastair Barrie as managing director of the North American business.
His role is a newly created one to drive the firm’s expansion in the US.
Before joining, Barrie spent 10 years at Martin Currie where his latest role was head of US wealth management sales.
Investec AM and Investec Private Bank
Triple hire for different arms of Investec.
Esther Chan and Alan Siow have been hired senior investment professionals at Investec Asset Management, in the Emerging Markets Corporate Debt investment team.
At Investec’s private bank based in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man, Brendan Stewart has been named as managing director, succeeding Stephen Henry who is retiring after 10 years in the job.
Siow joins from Bluebay Asset Management where he led the EM Corporate High Income funds; Chan was previously a portfolio manager at Ashmore Asset Management; while Stewart spent 14 in different roles within Investec Bank in South Africa.
Tilney
The wealth manager has opened an Edinburgh office to increase its presence in Scotland and hired Ronnie Binnie as managing partner for the Scottish capital city and Aberdeen.
He joins Tilney from Standard Life Aberdeen where he was for 27 years, with his latest role being head of business development at Aberdeen Standard Capital, the group’s discretionary management arm.
Charles Stanley
In a similar move, the wealth manager has opened an office in Glasgow, which will be led by Kris Barclay, who moved across from the company’s Edinburgh office.
Simon Lewis has also joined the newly opened office where he will work as an investment manager.
Lewis joins from Barclays Wealth where he was an investment manager for nine years.
Casterbridge Wealth
The discretionary fund manager has recruited Matt Cheek from Janus Henderson to take on the role of head of sales and distribution.
He will join the firm at the start of September 2019.
He leaves Janus Henderson as associate director, where he worked for since 2007.
Willis Towers Watson
Luba Nikulina and Chris Redmond have been promoted by the global advisory firm to lead two departments.
Nikulina will take on the role of head of research from 1 July 2019; while Redmond has been named head of manager research succeeding Nikulina.
TwinFocus
The multi-family office boutique has named Andrew Sams as director of wealth planning.
The appointment is part of the company’s push to strengthen solutions for ultra-high net worth professional investors and their families.
Sams joins from Deloitte UK where he worked for the last 10 years as a tax adviser.
Estera
The Jersey-based provider of funds and trust services has named Ethan Levner as global head of funds.
He will oversee the firm’s funds operation across the 11 jurisdictions in which it operates.
Levner has taken on the role on top of being the managing director of Estera Guernsey and group head of corporate development, after he joined the firm in 2016.
