Staff were taken by surprise when they turned up for work on Friday to find their office closed and guarded.

A letter from company director Keith Bayliss advised that two directors, Stuart Williamson and Diane Docherty, had been suspended pending an audit of business operations.

Williamson wrote to International Adviser advising that “wholly unfounded” claims against him had been made by “a disgruntled ex-investor” in response to his decision that the company “no longer wanted them in the business”.

Jackie Evans, co-founder and operations director of unaffiliated Kuala Lumpur-based private wealth management firm Greenwood, has been appointed by Bayliss to manage the day-to-day operations of Montpelier Malaysia.
