PEOPLE MOVES: Ashburton, Calamos, Munich Re…

Senior level changes were the name of the game this week with Ashburton Investments announcing a new chief investment officer and two promotions; with Calamos Investments and Munich Re also making big changes at the top.

Ashburton Investments

Jonathan Schiessl has been promoted to chief investment officer within Ashburton Investments’ international investment team.

A director at Ashburton Investments in Jersey, Schiessl assumes his new role with immediate effect which will see him take on responsibility for the firm’s global investment fund range and portfolio management services.

In addition, Derry Pickford and Marianna Georgakopoulou have been appointed joint heads of Ashburton Investments’ Asset Allocation team in London.

Pickford has been at the firm for a number of years leading its macro analysis while Georgakopoulou joined last year as multi-asset strategist from Pivot Capital Management (Monaco). As part of the re-structure, Georgakopoulou will take over day-to-day portfolio responsibility for the asset management funds while Derry will manage the global multi-asset funds.

Calamos Investments

John Calamos Sr., founder of Illinois-based global investment management firm Calamos Investments, has appointed John Koudounis his successor as chief executive, effective from 4 April 2016.

Calamos will remain the firm’s chairman and global chief investment officer.

Koudounis has 27 years’ financial services experience, having most recently served as president and chief executive of Mizuho Securities USA (MSUSA), a subsidiary of Mizuho Financial Group. Prior to joining MSUSA in 2008, Koudounis was managing director and head of fixed income for ABN AMRO North America.

Munich Re

The supervisory board of Munich Reinsurance Company has accepted the request by chief executive Nikolaus von Bomhard to step down from his post and leave the board of management on 26 April 2017.

Joachim Wenning has been named as his successor and will assume his new role on 27 April 2017, the day after the company’s AGM. He has been responsible for the international life reinsurance business on Munich Re’s board of management since the beginning of 2009, becoming responsible for the human resources in October 2013.

Kames Capital

Kames Capital has strengthened its UK wholesale distribution team with the appointment of Hari Patel as business development consultant.

Based in the firm’s London office, Patel will cover accounts across the UK, spanning the firm’s client base of wealth managers, financial advisers, fund-of-funds, family offices, fund platforms and banks. He will report into Mark Savage, head of UK regional sales.

Patel joins Kames from Jupiter Asset Management, where he was an investment sales manager, responsible for selling the company’s single strategy, multi-asset and multi-manager funds to intermediary/advisory businesses based in the central UK region.
