BMO appoints intermediary sales head for Austria/Germany, Hermes boosts its fixed income team and embattled AMP board members step down in “renewal”.

AMP

AMP non-executive directors Vanessa Wallace and Holly Kramer have resigned, while Patty Akopiantz will step down at the end of 2018 to allow “a measured process of board renewal”.

Wallace has also resigned as chair of AMP Capital Holdings.

AMP has been buffeted by the royal commission probe in Australia which has revealed a series of scandals.

BMO Global Asset Management

BMO GAM has appointed Beate Meyer as director, regional sales (intermediary) for Germany and Austria.

Based in Frankfurt, Meyer will report into Georg Kyd-Rebenburg, managing director, head of distribution (intermediary) for Europe.

Meyer will work alongside Guido Hansmeyer, director, regional sales (intermediary) for Germany, on growing the business in this region.

He has previously held the position as head of wholesale, Vontobel Asset Management in Germany, and head of wholesale for Schroders in Germany. Most recently, Meyer was executive director at Vontobel Asset Management Australia, responsible for expanding the firm’s presence into Australia and New Zealand.

Hermes Investment Management

Hermes IM has appointed Stephane Michel as senior portfolio manager in its fixed income team.

Reporting to Andrew Jackson, head of fixed income, Michel will assist Jackson to build out the asset-based lending platform as well as the wider multi-asset credit (MAC) capabilities for Hermes. He will be responsible for identifying market opportunities, trends and strong risk-adjusted relative value across illiquid markets as well as making portfolio composition recommendations.

Michel’s career has spanned a multitude of asset classes within fixed income and has included roles on the buy-side and sell-side, including five years at UBS. He has since then consulted on opportunities in the credit space.

Andrew Lennox has been appointed as asset-backed securities (ABS) portfolio manager and will make investment recommendations within the European ABS universe. Reporting to Vincent Nobel, head of asset based lending, his role will also include building and developing systems and infrastructure to analyse, risk manage, report on and monitor European ABS assets.

Lennox joins from BlackRock where he was a senior portfolio manager in the European asset-backed securities team. Prior to joining BlackRock in 2015, he spent 11 years at ECM, a Wells Fargo Company, and also worked at Goldman Sachs International.

First Names

Trust company First Names Group has appointed Sean Breslin as private client services director in Geneva and Carola Zoni as a private client services director in Guernsey.

Breslin has worked in the fiduciary sector in Switzerland for 15 years and has experience managing teams administering trust structures for the UK, non-resident Indian (NRI), Middle Eastern, Latin American and South African markets.

Zoni has 18 years’ experience administering corporate and private wealth structures for clients around the world.

Capital Generation Partners

Michel de Carvalho has been appointed chairman of London-based wealth manager Capital Generation Partners.

Carvalho was until March chair of Citi Private Bank and vice chair of Citigroup’s investment bank.

Harbottle and Lewis

Harbottle & Lewis has named Jonathan Burt as a partner in its private capital practice.

Burt joins from Harcus Sinclair where he was a partner since 2012. He had previously worked as a managing director at Barclays Wealth where he was on the management committee of their international tax, trust and insurance businesses. Before that he worked in Baker McKenzie’s Wealth Management department where he became partner in 2004.

He specialises in sophisticated complex cross-border tax and succession planning, multi-jurisdictional investment structures and advisory work for trustees, beneficiaries and families with international interests.

Burt has particular experience advising UK resident non-domiciled clients, families based in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and US citizens who live outside America. His core areas of expertise are UK tax, international investment structures, such as trusts, and compliance with exchange of information programmes.

Aiva

South American wealth planner Aiva has appointed Carla Sierra as head of investments, based in Montevideo.

She joins Aiva after a seven-year stretch as advisory manager at Banque Heritage.

Aiva offers wealth planning solutions out of its offices in Uruguay and Miami. It serves over 30,000 customers in Latin America, with $3bn (£2.2bn €2.5bn) in assets under management.
