Barclays Wealth names Cheung to UHNW post

Barclays Wealth has named Carole Cheung managing director and senior client partner.

Cheung has spent the last decade at HSBC, where most recently she was managing director of relationship management at an operation known as “Mega-Wealth Asia”. There, she focused on relationships in the so-called “mega-wealth” client space, and was responsible for managing their private and business wealth management needs, Barclays Wealth said.

Previously she also held senior roles at Citi and JPMorgan.

At Barclays, Cheung will continue to look after ultra high-net-worth Asian clients, “leveraging the capabilities of Barclays Capital – the investment banking division of Barclays Plc – in providing client-focused solutions to cater to the sophisticated needs of this particular client segment,” Barclays said in a statement.

Cheung’s appointment is the latest in a series of senior hires that Barclays Wealth has announced so far this year, including that of her boss, Pakorn Boonyakurkul, head of North Asia. A company spokesman said she did not replace anyone, and that her appointment was "in line with our strategy of hiring very senior bankers as we continue to capture the growth of wealth in Asia Pacific".

Another dozen senior director-level appointments were unveiled in March elsewhere in the bank’s Asia Pacific private banking operations.
