Briton named to succeed Wheatley at SFC, FT reporting

Hong Kong-based Ashley Alder will succeed Martin Wheatley at the SFC, the FT is reporting today.

|

The formal announcement will be made on Monday, according to the London-based financial newspaper, which cited as its source a person familiar with the timing of the appointment. It  said the decision had been made by a committee that included government officials.

According to the article, Alder’s British nationality was thought to make him potentially a more independent regulator, with respect to possible pressure from China, than if he had been “a local”.

Alder will succeed Martin Wheatley, another Briton, who, as reported, has been named to a post with the Financial Services Authority, and has now left the SFC.
