Guernsey Finance

Guernsey Finance has appointed Christopher Chan as its first Hong Kong representative. Chan, who takes up his post later this month, will lead Guernsey’s promotional efforts in Hong Kong as well as be an on-the-ground presence for Guernsey Finance and its member firms.

He will also assist with promotion in the wider southeast Asia region. Chan, who is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, has worked in Hong Kong’s corporate services sector for the past six years, with a particular focus on business development.

Brooks Macdonald

Wealth manager James Surcouf is leaving HSBC Global Asset Management after 12 years. He will join Brooks Macdonald’s Jersey branch as an investment manager responsible for building client relationships and managing discretionary portfolios for professional advisers, trustees, and high net worth private clients.

He was previously a discretionary wealth manager for HSBC in Jersey and brings with him more than 15 years’ experience in international financial services and is a chartered wealth manager.

C Hoare & Co

C Hoare & Co’s head of portfolio management, James Hoare, and chief investment officer, Rob Jeffree, will step down after the firm’s wealth management division is acquired by Schroders-owned Cazenove Capital Management.

Hoare has been with the firm for close to seven years. Before spearheading C Hoare & Co’s portfolio management business, he served as executive director at Goldman Sachs for a period of seven years and was executive director at Barclays Investment Bank for nearly six years before that.

Jeffree has also enjoyed a lengthy career at Britain’s oldest bank, progressing from head of fund selection to head of research and, finally, chief investment officer 18 months ago.

Vistra

Vistra has appointed Gavin Carruthers as director of its Jersey fund services business, which specialises in all aspects of corporate, fiduciary and administrative solutions for alternative investment structures, including real estate and private equity funds.

Carruthers brings a wealth of corporate and funds knowledge, obtained during a 15-year career in both the onshore and offshore financial services industry. Prior to joining Vistra, Carruthers worked for Intertrust (formerly Elian and Ogier) and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Openwork

Hayley Stansfield has joined Openwork in the role of regional recruitment manager. She brings with her over 30 years’ experience in financial services and comes with a long and proven track record in the recruitment and development of high quality businesses across all distribution channels.

Stansfield was previously at Sesame Bankhall Group for 12 years holding a variety of business development and recruitment roles. She will report into Stephen Wildgoose, Openwork’s recruitment and growth director.
