The platform is currently being developed by the provider with the help of a small group of advisers. The firms have agreed to take part in the trial-run by offering the new service to their clients.

Advisers using the technology must set an appropriate advice fee which is disclosed to the customer as part of the advice process.

Reaching new customers

During a Platforum conference held on Thursday, customer director at Old Mutual Wealth Carlton Hood said the company wants to help extend the footprint of financial advice: “Helping advisers to reach new customers through digital channel is an obvious place for us to explore.”

He added: “We will continue to develop the proposition along with a small number of advisers with a view to making the service more widely available in 2016, subject to demand.”

In July, Old Mutual International – which is part of Old Mutual Wealth – launched a campaign to help advisers identify opportunities in trusts.
