PEOPLE MOVES: Axa, Investec, Miton…

Axa Group has announced a high-profile return and a senior appointment. A new role of managing director UK has been created at Investec Wealth & Investment, while significant departures have been announced by Miton and Argonaut.

Axa

Pierre-Emmanuel Juillard has returned to Axa Investment Management to establish a team focused on liquid absolute return strategies.

Juillard joins Axa IM from Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong where he was a partner and head of structuring in the securities division in Asia Pacific. Prior to this he was head of structured finance at Axa IM having joined the company in 1999 as head of financial engineering and asset and liability management studies.

Reporting to Axa IM chief executive Andrea Rossi, Julliand will be based in Hong Kong and lead an initial team of around 10. Subject to regulatory approval, AXA IM aims to launch this new activity in the second half of 2016 through a dedicated asset management subsidiary in Hong Kong.

In addition, Alexander Vollert has been named chief executive of Axa Germany and appointed to Axa Group’s executive committee.

He joins from Allianz where he currently holds the position of chairman of the management board of Allianz Versicherungs (Insurance) as well as being a member of the management board of Allianz Deutschland (Germany), in charge of property and casualty (P&C) operations.

Investec Wealth & Investment (IW&I)

Tom Street has been appointed to the newly created position of managing director IW&I UK, reporting directly to chief executive Jonathan Wragg.

Formerly head of investment management at IW&I, Street will be responsible for all client-facing areas comprising financial planning, private office, the AIM division, as well as continuing to oversee investment management. Additionally, he will assume responsibility for research, investment risk, projects and marketing.

The firm has also internally appointed Matt Beddall, Carl Cross and Richard Greenhalgh as heads of its offices in Sheffield, Liverpool and Manchester, respectively.

Miton Group

Fund managers George Godber and Georgina Hamilton are to depart AIM-listed asset management firm Miton Group. Between them the duo ran close to a third of the firm’s £3bn ($4.2bn, €3.7bn) AUM.

They both joined Miton in 2012 from Matterley, the fund management division of Charles Stanley which Godber co-founded with Henry Dixon in 2008.

It is understood that the duo are headed to Polar Capital. Godber has a one-year notice period, while Hamilton is bound by a six month notice period.

Argonaut Capital Partners

Partner Oliver Russ is to leave the boutique asset management firm for Liontrust as Barry Norris takes full ownership of the fund.

Argonaut also announced the appointment of Sanlam chief executive Jonathan Polin as chairman. According to the firm, Polin played an instrumental role in the founding of Argonaut when he was at Britannic Asset Management, which later became Ignis.

Sun Life

Jason Dehni will be joining as chief executive of Sun Life Hong Kong in May 2016, subject to regulatory approval. In this role, he will be responsible for growing the business, which includes both an individual life and pensions and mandatory provident fund business.

Dehni, who is joining Sun Life from Manulife, is replacing Wim Hekstra who is returning to his native Netherlands.  

Manulife Asset Management

Manulife AM has hired Othman Domiati as managing director and head of sales and relationship management, Middle East. Operating from the firm’s London office, Domiati reports to Marco Zanuso, head of distribution for Europe ex-UK and the Middle East.

Domiati has held various positions with Merrill Lynch, Abn Amro BANK, and UBS in London. A native of Beirut, he speaks English, French, Italian, German and Arabic. 

Schroders

Schroders is continuing to strengthen its Fixed Income Global Multi-Sector team with the appointment of James Lindsay-Fynn who joins as a portfolio manager focusing on rates and currencies.

He joins Schroders from Rogge Global Partners where he was a partner and a global macro portfolio manager specialising in interest rates and currencies for global portfolios.

Mercer

Mercer has announced the appointment of Robert Evans as a principal in the firm’s retirement business. Evans will be based in the London office, advising corporates and trustees on UK pension scheme matters. He will also join Mercer’s innovation, policy and research team.

Prior to joining Mercer, Evans was a principal at Buck Consultants in London where he was part of the senior team, advising some of their larger clients and leading the Knowledge Source group. Earlier in his career he worked at Towers Perrin in the UK and as an actuarial student for Mercer in Toronto.
