In April 2015, Aviva completed the acquisition of Friends Life in a deal worth £5.6bn ($7.05bn, €6.5bn).

Aviva revealed on Monday that the buyout has resulted in a total redesign of its critical illness offerings which now involve a basic plan aimed at advisers looking for low cost cover and an upgraded version aimed at the higher end of the market.

Paul Brencher, managing director of individual protection at Aviva, said the new plans are designed Aviva to allow advisers to meet customers’ differing needs and budget.

“We’ve taken time to listen and to ensure that the needs of our customers and our financial adviser community are at the heart of our new propositions,” he said.

The new products are Life Insurance Plus, Critical Illness Plus and Income Protection Plus, which all include optional benefits and will be available through the digital Aviva Life Protection Solutions platform.

The products also have optional extras such as Global Treatment by Best Doctors, which Friends Life already offers, allowing clients to be treated anywhere in the world.

Other features include access to a range of benefits including Second Opinion by Best Doctors, Bupa Anytime Healthline and counselling and career support through Workplace Options.
