Would you take investment advice from Tony Blair?

Former Labour PM Tony Blair has established a European-licensed investment advice business

|

As a company, Firerush Ventures No. 3 is registered with the FSA, conducting business as Tony Blair Associates.

Firerush’s chief operating officer is Mark Labovitch whose CV includes Dresdner Kleinwort, LongAcre Partners (the corporate finance adviser) and most recently Mesa Global, an investment bank.

Varun Chandra, a mergers and acquisitions expert at Lehman Brothers, has also joined the company.

Other Blair associates registered with the FSA include researcher Catherine Rimmer, former government adviser Jo Gibbons who is now Blair’s director of corporate affairs, and Jonathan Powell, Blair’s former chief of staff, who is a currently managing director at Morgan Stanley.

Tony Blair Associates is authorised to trade across Europe, including the tax havens of Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Gibraltar although it is yet to confirm whether it will advise offshore clients. According to FSA documents, it can "arrange deals in investments" for clients though it cannot hold client money meaning it cannot carry out many traditional banking functions.
