Both are bond funds – the Asian High Yield Bond Fund and Asian Local Currency Bond Fund – and mark a significant step for the company which is seeking to gain an international foothold outside of the Asia-Pacific market.
In order to launch the funds, Lion Global has established LGlobal Funds, a Luxembourg-domiciled company which will be managed by Lion Global Investors, itself part of the OCBC Group of companies. The new funds will be marketed into North Asia and Europe.
The Asian High Yield Bond Fund and Asian Local Currency Bond Fund, which are both actively managed, will aim to generate total returns from capital appreciation and income over the medium to long term. The strategy will be guided by a combination of top-down and bottom-up investment strategy, driven by fundamental, technical and valuation analysis.
The Asian High Yield Bond Fund is managed by Veronica Ng, Lion Global’s leader for Asian credits and the Asian Local Currency Bond Fund is managed by Goh San San, Lion Global’s leader for Asian local funds.
Kong Siew Cheong, chief marketing officer at Lion Global Investors said: “We are seeing strong appetite for Asian bonds in Europe and
North Asia. In harvesting this global interest, it’s a logical and timely step for us to offer Luxembourg-domiciled SICAV funds for global investors to capitalise on Asia’s growth.”
